Umm Ali is a traditional Egyptian dessert that resembles bread pudding, made with layers of flaky pastry, milk, nuts, and raisins. Ingredients:

  • 1 pack (about 250g) of puff pastry or 6 sheets of phyllo dough or croissants
  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup mixed nuts (almonds, pistachios, walnuts, hazelnuts), chopped
  • ¼ cup raisins (optional)
  • ¼ cup shredded coconut
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional for extra flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ cup clotted cream or thick whipped cream for topping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pastry:

    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Place the puff pastry on a baking sheet and bake until golden and crispy (about 15 minutes).
    • If using phyllo dough, tear it into large pieces and lightly toast it in the oven.
    • If using croissants, cut them into small pieces.
